Spelling variable. Rarely found in dictionaries but can be tracked on-line. I know it from my childhood, a word my mother used for a meal using bits and pieces, left overs and similar things. So here they are: a few bits and pieces, scraps of unimportance, gleanings from a very thin table.

Assured by all the folk with scopes that this was the gull-billed tern. Appalling photo I'm afraid. Canon 7D still proving challenging focus-wise - but it was a long way off!

Freesia laxa, a hardy South African corm, tiny plant never more than 4 inches high with half-inch red flowers [we have a white form too].
